Update #1: Sony finally officially said that the problem does involve the clock. Their solution for now is to not use your PS3. Great fix. I will be cool if I don't lose those trophies in Dragon Age. Otherwise I'm going to be sort of pissed. Also there of some reports of any model that's not being backwards compatible being unaffected, but that is still just a rumor, the slim is your only bet for now.
Figures, my boss gives me the day off and I can not even play my ps3.... If any of you have tried to log in in the past 24+ hours you probably realized that you can not. (Unless you have a PS3 Slim, which seems to be unaffected by this problem. I think the PSP is also unaffected.) Upset that I can not play Dragon Age, I started looking for answers...
- First off, any game that supports trophies CAN NOT be played. Any game you downloaded from the Playstation Network can not be played (Tried playing Dragon Age with the ethernet cord plugged in and unplugged and it says that since trophy information can not be retrieved the game will quit) This includes all PS1 games. Thank you digital rights management.
- (Possibly unrelated) PSN Accounts might have been compromised according to this post on Sony's site. They say that they might of been able to change your password, but should not be able to get to your credit card number. But they can see your other personal information and buy stuff with your account.
- Other things to worry about: DO NOT LOAD ANY GAMES. If you do your Trophies for those games will disappear. No one knows if you can sync and retrieve them when the network comes back up, also trophies since your last sync disappearing & time defaulting to 12/31/1999. The theory is this is the route of the problem, That on the older "Fat" PS3's one of the chips that controls time tried to change the date to 2/29/10 and since that does not exist everything went to hell. The Slim's have a newer version of that chip which is why they are unaffected.
And that's all I have for now, I'll check back and see if anything new has come up after I play some 360.
